New Zealander
A farmer bought6 sheep - 5 ewes and a ram.
He asked a salesman "How will I
know when the females are
pregnant?"
ある日、農家の男性が６匹の羊-５匹の雌羊と１匹の雄羊を飼い、
メスが妊娠したことを知るためにはどうしたらよいかたずねました。
"Simple,"
said the sakes man.
"At down, look out your window. If the sheep are standing
aroung eating,they're not pregnant. When they become pregnant, they like to roll
on the grass at the crack of
dawn."
セールスマンが答えるには
「簡単だよ、明け方に窓から外をみて、羊が立って草を食べていれば妊娠しておらず、妊娠すると好んで草の上を転がるんだ。
とのことでした。
So
every morning at teh crack of dawn, the farmer looked out of the window, and
every morning the sheep were not rolling, they were eating. After a month of
this he said to his wife, "this ram's no good. He's not getting the females
pregnant. What arewe going to
do?"
それから毎朝、外を見ましたが、羊たちは草を食べており、草の上を転がってはいませんでした。
一ヶ月が経った頃には、男性は「この雄羊はよくないな。メスたちを妊娠させられないぞ。どうしたらいいんだ。」と妻に相談しました。
"well,"
she replied, " a friend of mine told me that her husband had the same problem.
He put the sheep in the back of the pick-up truck, took them out to the barn and
did the job
himself."
「う〜ん、友人の旦那も同じ問題を抱えていて、羊をトラックに乗せて納屋に連れて行き、自分でその仕事をしたと聞いたことがあるわ。」と妻は返事をしました。
Being
a New Zealander, the farmer liked the idea.
"Do you thing it would help?" he
asked enthusiastically.
"I don't know but it's worth a try," said the
wife.
ニュージーランド人として、その案を気に入った男性は、
「上手くいくかな？」と興奮して尋ねたところ、
「分からないけど、挑戦してみる価値はありそうね」と妻は答えました。
So
he put the sheep in the back of the truck, drove them to the barn and did the
job himself.
そうして、彼はトラックの荷台に羊を乗せ、納屋まで連れて行くと自分自身で仕事をしました。
The next
morning he looked eagerly out the window, but still the sheep were grazing. So
he put them in the truck again, drove them to the barn and repeated the
job.
次の日の朝、期待して窓の外を見てみるましたが、羊たちは未だ草を食べていました。
そのため、又トラックに載せ、納屋で仕事を繰り返しました。
This
went on every day for ten days.
On the eleventh day he woke up and said to
his wife,
"I can't bear to look out that window and see those sheep grazing
on the grass. Will you look out and see what they're
doing?"
これが１０日も続くと、１１日目朝に妻に
「もう窓の外を見て草を食べているのを見るのは耐えられない、
お前が羊たちがどうしているか見てくれないか？」とたずねました。
His
wife looked out the window.
"Well," she said, "there's three in the back of
the truck and one tooting the
horn."
妻は外を見ていいました。
「え〜、３匹がトラックの荷台に乗って、１匹がクラクションを鳴らして呼んでいるわよ。」
