side effect of HEROIN
Two young men were in court on chargers of heroin trafficking.
Before
sentencing, the judge said,
"We have just designed a rehabilitation
program,
and if you two are prepared to become involved,
I will consider
not ordering a jail sentense.
What I want you to do is spend a hundred hours
of your own time
trying to reform drug addicts.
Do you accepet this
challenge?"
Both men accepted.
"Further," said the judge,
"I
want you to report back to me on a monthly basis."
At the end of the
first month, the first man claimed
that he had influenced thirty-five men
to enter into a rehabilitation program.
"Remarkable!" said the
judge.
"How did you accomplish that?"
"Well," replied the first man,
"I draw two ciecles - a large circle, which I mark 'A'
and a small circle
inside tge large circle which I call 'B'.
I explain to the drug addicts that
before they start taking dope,
their brain is as large as 'A' but after
they've been on dope
for a couple of years or so, it finished up the size of
'B',
which means you finish up a moron. Then you'll go to jail.
This
seems to have the required impact
and they consent to go onto a
rehabilitation program."
"Excellent!" said the judge excitedly.
"Now,
how did you go?" he said to the second man.
"Well, I got nine hundred men
to enter
the rehabilitation program,
using the same method but a
different story."
"That's amazing! How?" required the judge.
" I
draw a large circle 4 inches in diameter, and mark it 'A',
and put a small
circle in the centre which is about one inch
in diameter nad mark it 'B',
and I tell them that after they've been on dope for a few years,
they'll
get caought and go to jail.
Before they go to jail,
their asshole will be
as big as circle 'B',
abd after they've been in jail for three
months,
it'll be as big as circle 'A',
and this seems to have desired
effect."

裁判官は二人に、
「判決を下す前に、われわれは最近麻薬中毒者の
リハビリのためのプログラムを作ったところであり、
もし２人がそれに関る覚悟があれば、懲役刑は与えないように考慮しようと思う。
わたしが２人にして欲しいのは１００時間を費やし、麻薬中毒者の更正への協力です。
この挑戦を受けますか？」と言いました。
２人はそれを了解しました。
「更に、毎月レポートするように。」裁判官が続けました。
最初の月の最後に、１人目の男がやってきて３５人の男を
リハビリに入れたと主張しました。
裁判官は、
「すばらしい。どのようにそれを達成しましたか？」
最初の男は応えました、
「まず、２つの丸を描き、ひとつは大きな丸でそれを'A'とし、
その中に小さな丸を描き、それを'B'としました。
そして麻薬中毒者たちに麻薬を始める前の脳みその大きさは'A'だが、
数年語には'B'のサイズになりバカになり刑務所に行く羽目になる
と説明したところ効果があったようです。」
「すばらしい。あなたはどうですか？」
裁判官は２人目の男に聞きました。
「私は同じ方法を用いて、しかし違う方法で説明することで
９００人の中毒者をリハビリに入れました。」
２人目の男は応えました。
「それは驚きです。でも、どうやって？」
裁判官は尋ねました。
「私は直径４インチほどの丸を描き、それを'A'として、
その中に１インチほどの丸を描き、'B'としました。
そして彼らに、２〜３年後に警察に捕まり刑務所に入ることになり、
刑務所に入る前のお尻の穴のサイズはＢだが、
刑務所に入ってから３ヵ月後にはＡになっていると説明したところ、
期待していた効果がありました。」
２人目の男は応えました。
